About Fused

Charitable, bootstrapped, client-loving nerds that want to change the world — and we're slowly learning what that means on a daily basis. We don't have an office, but if we ever do it'll be disguised as a coffee shop where we can meet once in awhile for caffeine. We all like hiking, biking, travel, the outdoors & like the ability to live our lives without the interuption of a standard '9-5' day job in a drab office.

Fused is a web hosting firm based in Toronto (& around the world) with roughly ~2,000 clients. Launched in '01, we'd like to consider ourselves the underdogs of the industry with a passion for helping clients and an extreme love for new projects.

Responsibilities:

• System administrators will be responsible for deployment, optimization & securing our server fleets.

• A little about you:

  • — Someone who loves open source and what it stands for.
  • — Someone who parses infosec / security related news on a daily basis. You're on all of the mailing lists, keep up with the news & are in the loop.
  • — You're someone who gets a rise out of optimization, performance & security.
  • — Someone who thinks tedious tasks are best left to get fixed with puppet or something you've built in your spare time.
  • — Someone responsible and mature enough to work on their own without someone breathing down their neck.

  Your interests — experience:

  • — Experience with RHEL / CentOS, and the odd debian box..
  • — Experience with xen & a joy for virtualization and what it offers
  • — LAMP. Nginx, Varnish, HAproxy & a love for optimization.
  • — Familiarity, and hatred for cPanel/WHM (though note we use it).
  • — Interest in new playing with new technologies to add to any stack
  • — You enjoy coding, troubleshooting, and automating — language irrelevant — whether it be perl, sh, python, ruby or $x.

  Nitty-gritty:

  • 1-3 month contracts initially, long-term with equity available for the right individuals afterwards.
  • Location: Telecommute. Whatever cafe, basement or beach you prefer. Whichever hours of your choosing.
  • Perks: Work with a well rounded team of sysadmins. Save on that commute & work where you're comfortable.

  Company is expanding rapidly, we want people who would love to grow with us but most of all who like to work, get involved and dig in.

  Notes:

  1. We have no windows machines on our network, prefer debian, though most of our systems are CentOS.
  2. We often donate 100% of our December revenue to a random cause we come across. Our way of paying it forward.
  3. Our clients are our investors as we're 100% bootstrapped. We've never accepted outside investment, lines of credit, and our CEO has no credit card..
  4. One day, we'll be built on 100% open source.
